The Book

Every parent wants to increase confidence when making decisions that will set their children up for lifelong success.  Yet, after working with hundreds of parents of children, tweens, and teens, we know that most of them struggle with disconnection from those decisions, their children, and even their own unique capabilities.  The result is that most (parents and children alike) experience anxiety and doubt on a regular basis. Esteemed child psychotherapist, Nicole Runyon, knows all about helping people overcome the kind of anxiety that is associated with disconnection. In fact, she has developed a four-part proprietary methodology called the Free to Fly Formula that has helped hundreds of parents to be able to achieve more assurance in their parenting and therefore long-term success for their children.

A Message from Nicole

I created this book for parents to feel validated! Parenting is hard and parenting with technology bombarding our children every day and fracturing their development will make the strongest parent want to break. I understand this as a mother of two and have witnessed countless children in my psychotherapy practice affected by these issues.

Over 20 years ago when I first started pursuing the goal of psychotherapy for children, I was so excited. I wanted to change the world, and I thought helping children would do just that. But for many years, I experienced frustration and sadness because so many children are flooding the mental health system. And in the last few years since I started working with and speaking to parents, I have now seen hundreds of parents struggle with the exact same feelings. I got so many calls from desperate parents, only to turn them away because I am only one person and couldn’t help their children. And that is what led me to developing this process and writing this book. I want to prevent children from entering into the system and help families whose children need the help and can’t find it.

I started to phase out of my private practice seeing children and moved toward writing, speaking, and coaching parents because I could no longer see children for therapy only to send them back to the same environments that were causing them to need it. It broke my heart to see children scapegoated and pathologized for simply reacting to their exposure to technology before they were ready. It felt unethical to be in a position where I was giving them a diagnosis and not helping fix the underlying issues. The mental health field has failed children, and I was not going to be a part of it any longer. I want to be a part of the solution, so I walked away from my practice to write this book, speak to large audiences and work one on one with parents just like you! I haven’t looked back, and I will not stop until we no longer have a mental illness epidemic among our children. We must protect our children’s childhoods, and parents, it’s up to us! We have to be strong for them.

And if any of that resonates with you or if you have any of those same feelings, or challenges, or struggles, or hopes, or dreams, I want to openly extend an invitation to you to Pre-order this book. It will make a positive difference in your life and your family’s lives.

Nicole is highly recognized as an expert in her field and speaks to large audiences. Nicole has been featured in the news to talk about her expertise on technology’s effects on child and adolescent mental health and development.
